Description
Abstract:
Pedometer with Wireless PC Communication is a device, usually portable and electronic or electromechanical, that counts each step a person takes by detecting the motion of the person’s foot’s step. Because the distance of each person’s step varies, an informal calibration, performed by the user, is required if presentation of the distance covered in a unit of length (such as in kilometers or miles) is desired. Pedometers can be a motivation tool for people wanting to increase their physical activity. Step counters can give encouragement to compete with oneself in getting fit and losing weight. Pedometers have been shown in clinical studies to increase physical activity, and reduce blood pressure levels and Body Mass Index.
Pedometer originally used by sports and physical fitness enthusiasts; But now it becoming popular as an everyday exercise measurer and motivator. It records how many steps the It records the total steps moved.
The technology for a pedometer includes a mechanical sensor and software to count steps.
The software technology used to interpret the output of the sensor and “make sense of accurate steps” varies widely. Our Wireless Pedometer has two parts; one is Transmitter Section and other is Receiver Section as shown below.
Transmitter Section:
Transmitter Section has to take along with walking. It detects the step move and transmits it to the Receiver Section for step counting. There is a mechanical switch is used for step movements detect which forward to Encoder IC HT12E through an Opto- coupler IC. After Encoding, it transmits through Transmitter TX433 of 433 MHz Frequency. The whole circuit needs 5V power supply for working. Thus, there is a 9V battery connected to the circuit for supplying power. There is voltage regulator 7805 is placed in the circuit which regulate the 9V to 5V for use.
Receiver Section:
The Receiver Section is connected to the PC through RS232 cable, which records the total step count. This circuit has a Receiver RX433, which receives the data and forwards it to decoder IC HT12D. HT12D decodes the data and sends it to the micro – controller AT89S52 as shown in figure 2. Micro – controller sends the total steps count to the PC through MAX 232. There is window based software in PC, which takes the data and calculates the distance cover by person and displays it on the PC. The Snap shot of the software is given in figure 3. This software also calculates the speed of walking with help of distance measured and time taken.
